R+D in Drug Dosage Forms and Drug Delivery Systems

The team led by Carlos García from I+D Farma has been awarded the “Francisco Guitián Ojea” Prize by the Galician Royal Academy of Sciences

Yesterday, the Galician Royal Academy of Sciences (RAGC) held the award ceremony for the“Francisco Guitián Ojea”Prize, which was granted to the team led by Carlos García from the I+D Farma group, in collaboration with iARCUS (Institute of Aquatic Environment for Global Health) and CiMUS (Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases) at the University of Santiago. This award recognizes a research project with clear applications for the socioeconomic development of Galicia.

The award highlights an innovation based on aerogels for biomedical applications, including bone implants, pulmonary drug delivery, and wound treatment. One of the project’s most significant achievements has been the production of these materials under sterile conditions—an especially challenging task due to their complex nanostructure.

The patented technology stands out for its unique and sustainable nature. It is currently undergoing technological valorization in collaboration with Galician companies. Developed at the University of Santiago de Compostela, this solution offers a viable industrial alternative, capable of reducing both production time and costs, with strong potential for impact in the biomedical field.
