Best oral presentation award at Poly-Char conference

The work entitled “3D-Printing of methylcellulose aerogels for bone regenerative medicine”
presented by Ana Iglesias-Mejuto, a PhD student from I+D Farma (USC), has been awarded with
the “Best oral presentation from students and young scientists” at “Poly-Char” conference, held
in Halle, Siegen (online) between the 22th and 25th of May, 2022.

In this work aerogel-based scaffolds were obtained by 3D-printing of methylcellulose-based inks
and scCO2 drying of the alcogel-based scaffolds by the dual processing strategy previously
described. Nowadays the regeneration of bone defects coming from accidental fractures or
bone pathologies is still a challenge. An ideal scaffold aimed to bone tissue regeneration must
present a high textural performance as well as reach a high printing fidelity to fulfill personalized
bone tissue engineering requirements. Textural properties of different methylcellulose-based
formulations were evaluated regarding bone tissue engineering by nitrogen adsorcion/
desorcion, SEM analysis and d printing accuracy measurements.
