Ana Iglesias awarded with the ESB-Julia Polak European Doctorate Award 2025

Dr. Ana Iglesias-Mejuto has been awarded by the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) council with the Julia Polak European Doctorate Award. The prize is delivered during the 34th Annual Conference of the ESB, to be held in Torino (Italy). Ana received a Predoctoral Fellowship from Xunta de Galicia to carry out her PhD project entitled “Development of aerogel-based formulations for regenerative medicine”, supervised by Carlos Alberto García-González (I+D Farma, USC) and Inés Ardao Palacios (BioFarma, USC).

Her PhD Thesis was focused on the employment of 3D-printing and supercritical fluids technologies to develop nanostructured biomaterials for bone tissue engineering applications. 3D-printed aerogels with high shape fidelity and fluorescent properties were manufactured and evaluated for the regenerative medicine field in collaboration with Prof. Luisa Durães (University of Coimbra, Portugal) and Prof. Catarina Pinto Reis (University of Lisbon, Portugal).
